Introduction

Automated External Defibrillation [AED] devices are becoming more readily available in highly populated sites and other areas deemed to be of higher risk to a heart condition eg. Leisure centres. The AED is well established as the only effective therapy for cardiac arrest.

The AED is an easy device to work and together with basic life support skills will significantly increase the chance of survival for a casualty who has suffered a cardiac arrest.

The 4 hour course teaches the student basic life support skills then introduces the AED whereupon the student can put into practice all the skills learnt and become competent and confident in helping a casualty.
